Project Brief
Saksham is a service designed during my undergraduate studies to empower blue-collar workers to transition into white-collar roles by providing them with the necessary skillsets and job opportunities. This project aims to bridge the gap between these segments, fostering economic mobility and personal growth for individuals in the blue-collar sector.
The Problem
Many working young men & women fear losing their existing jobs and being unable to fulfill their basic necessities*. This creates a lack of confidence in their capabilities, which stops them from doing better.

The Challenge
Large workforce in blue-collar jobs with limited growth potential.
Lack of access to affordable skill development programs and job placement support.
Financial and educational barriers restrict career mobility for blue-collar workers.
The Key insights
Online Research, General Observations, & Insights
Due to time constraints, the research mainly relied on online sources, general observations, and studies about blue-collar workers and their economic progress.
Workers in lower-income jobs often aspire for career advancement and greater financial stability, though they may not always have the tools to pursue these goals.

Many blue-collar workers are unaware of the types of white-collar jobs they could transition into due to a perceived gap in qualifications.
Based on typical job requirements for white-collar roles, we assumed that the blue-collar workforce might lack essential soft skills (like communication and leadership) and technical skills (such as computer literacy).
Given the low wage nature of blue-collar jobs, we assumed that most workers would find it difficult to afford training programs or take time off work to upskill.

Existing Solutions
While there are skill development initiatives (e.g., Skill India), they often lack comprehensive post training support like job placements or mentorship, especially for those transitioning into white-collar roles.
